Personalized learning pathways that prepare students for college, leadership, and life.

Upper School at Knox

The Knox Upper School Program

Middle school is one of the most transitional times in a student’s academic career. Leaving the close support and security of elementary school and entering an educational arena that is the precursor to high school comes with a host of challenges that can play a critical role in a student’s middle school experience.

Knox Middle School provides a supportive, nurturing environment where students feel safe to explore and develop their unique interests. Through friendships with peers from around the world, students build the skills and character that prepare them for success in our college preparatory high school program and beyond.

There are many valuable benefits to a Knox Middle School education:

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum that helps students develop communication skills, empathy and conflict resolution skills with an end-goal of promoting “future readiness” in our students
  • Strict protocols and monitoring of cell phone use and appropriate use of other technologies are enforced
  • Opportunities to take Upper School courses in science and mathematics
  • Writing and research are stressed across the curriculum
  • Courses in the visual and performing arts, life skills and study skills are infused into the daily middle school schedule
  • World Language instruction in Spanish, French, Mandarin and Italian

Following the academic day, students will have the opportunity to practice with an athletic team of their choice or participate in our after-school enrichment program designed specifically for our Knox middle schoolers.

Our middle school students, teachers and curriculum are guided by a dedicated Middle School Coordinator who manages the daily operations, academic programs, and student services within the Knox Middle School. The Coordinator acts as the vital bridge between the administration, teachers, students, and parents to ensure curriculum standards are met and a positive, supportive learning environment thrives.

The Middle School curriculum is a set course of study designed to provide a solid foundation in both content and skills for a smooth transition into the Upper School College Preparatory Program. Middle School students may pursue Upper School credit in math after qualifying via a placement exam. The study of world languages usually begins with exposure to multiple languages – French, Italian, Spanish and Mandarin –  in grades six and seven; eighth grade students may then choose one of those languages for continuous study throughout high school. The After School Enrichment program provides open spaces and opportunities for our middle schoolers to apply their learning in a more casual setting and explore other creative passions via the arts and athletics, all while further building the skills essential for high school success.

What makes Knox Middle School unique is our close-knit community, where every student belongs. Students are known and supported by their peers and a team of educators who are invested in their success and well being.
