Our students benefit from the wealth of specialized artists in the nearby area. They study piano, voice, violin, and guitar through private instruction. Other instruments and areas of private study can be arranged when needed. Vocal and instrumental lesson fees vary by instructor.

Performance is a practice, not a talent.
At Knox, the performing arts are open to everyone. Students who have never held an instrument join beginning ensembles; students with a decade of training work one-on-one with faculty toward conservatory auditions. Both stand on the same stage.
Rehearsals happen in the afternoon block alongside athletics, so students can sing in the chamber choir and still play a spring sport. Four major performances a year mean everyone gets the experience of preparing something difficult and delivering it live.

Wm. Turner Shoemaker Theater
Located in the Bancroft-Phinney Hall Gymnasium, the Wm. Turner Shoemaker Theater is a lively gathering place for plays, musicals, concerts, and special performances. Here, student actors and technicians work together to bring ambitious productions to life for the entire Knox community.

What does a typical academic day look like?
Students carry a balanced load of six to seven courses, with built-in time for advising, extra help, and independent study. Block scheduling means longer, deeper class periods and a calmer daily rhythm — with afternoons reserved for athletics, arts, and activities.
